EAL: Evaluation Assurance Level
EAL does not represent the security strength but it represents the level of evaluation width and depth, which is defined by the 7 levels from EAL1 to EAL7. The higher EAL level is required, the more detailed and rigorous evaluation for the wider range information is necessary. After renewal of arrangement in 2014, EAL2 or below has been regarded as appropriate level for the majority of IT devices including MFPs. Although EAL2 or below certified devices are internationally recognized under both previous arrangement and new arrangement, EAL3 or above certified devices are only recognized within the country which issued that certification.
