Ricoh Chairperson and JCLP Co-chair hands policy proposal for Japan's next GHG reduction targets and Strategic Energy Plan to bipartisan parliamentary group

TOKYO, July 5, 2024 – Ricoh today announced Jake Yamashita, its Chairperson and Co-Chair of the Japan Climate Leaders' Partnership (JCLP)*, has delivered a JCLP policy proposal on Japan's next Greenhouse Gas (GHG) Reduction Targets and Strategic Energy Plan to bipartisan parliamentary group, the Association for Achieving Carbon Neutrality on July 2. Yamashita also handed the proposal to Ken Saito, Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry and exchanges opinions on July 5 and Yoshimasa Hayashi, Chief Cabinet Secretary on July 9.
JCLP calls on the Japanese government to raise its 2035 targets for greenhouse gas emission reductions to be more than 75% versus 2013 and renewable energy to exceed 60%. It believes that Japan's decarbonization policies must be further strengthened in order to enhance energy security and win the international competition for a decarbonized transition.

- JCLP is a coalition of businesses in Japan launched in 2009 to encourage the business sector to develop a sound sense of urgency on climate action. It aims to become leading companies necessary on the pathway towards a decarbonized society. As a cross-sectoral business group, it has a membership of 244 including major companies in Japan (as of July 2024), its total sales are estimated to be ¥156 trillion, and electricity demand together amounts to approx. 77 TWh (including overseas businesses). Since April 2017, JCLP has been the Climate Group's Regional Delivery Partner on RE100, EP100 and EV100 initiatives in Japan. The group is actively working on collaboration with various actors from local governments to international organizations as seen in the signing of a comprehensive partnership agreement with Yokohama City and co-hosting of RE Action, Japan's unique initiative to support small and medium enterprises and other organizations to declare 100% renewable electricity.
