Ricoh to Expand Copier and Printer Development Center

Invests 24 billion yen to construct new building in an expansion of the Ricoh Technology Center

Tokyo, February 25, 2008, Ricoh Company, Ltd.(President and CEO. Shiro Kondo), announced that it intends to strengthen its development capabilities, by constructing a new building at its Ricoh Technology Center in Ebina City, Kanagawa Prefecture, Japan. The new building represents a 24 billion yen investment. Construction will begin in August 2008 and the company aims to have the building completed by August 2010. Employment at the Ricoh Technology Center will gradually increase from the current 3,000 employees to 5,000.

Established in August 2005, Ricoh Technology Center is the company's main development center. It houses the copier and printer development division and the manufacturing technology division, which were previously in separate locations at the company's Ohmori office in Ohta Ward, Tokyo and at the Atsugi office in Atsugi City, Kanagawa Prefecture. Today, this center is engaged in elemental technology development, design, product evaluation and manufacturing technology for state-of-the-art color products. Thanks to the expansion, the center will also incorporate the software development department, the inkjet technology development department and the supply development department (responsible for toners and photoconductors). This will further improve the company's flexible cross-functional (inter-departmental) development structure and strengthen human resources development, thereby enhancing product engineering and overall development efficiency.

By strengthening its system at Ricoh Technology Center, Ricoh will continue to provide products that embody the company's core values: "simplify knowledge creation," "create solutions that fit" and "harmonize with the environment." Further, Ricoh will continue in its quest to become "the No.1 production engineering company," contributing to customers and society alike.
