Model used GR DIGITAL II
Duration of use 6 months

Sunset over the Canary Islands in Manual Exposure mode.

Shot : GR DIGITAL II ●1/80sec. ●F8.0 ●ISO100 ●EV0.0 ●WB:MANUAL
Special techniques used
This photo was taken on our last night on the beautiful Canary Island of Lanzarote. This location was near our villa and is well known to the locals as a great spot to watch the sunset. My wife and I were driving to town for dinner but we saw a glorious sun setting against a clear horizon and we knew we had to turn back to capture it. I set the ISO to 100 for the best picture quality, and selected the manual exposure mode so that I could quicky fine-tune the exposure while the light was fading quickly. I included the people in the foreground to bring life into the picture.
Functions used
On my recent trip to Spain, I took my GR Digital II with me as a companion to my digital camera. My favourite focal length is 35mm, but the 28mm wide-angle lens on the GR Digital proved to be very useful in photographing the huge buildings and spectacular landscapes of Spain. The compactness and the quick handling of the GR Digital also helped me captured several quick shots that otherwise would have been missed if I had reached for my big digital camera.

Shot of fireworks taken in Long Exposure mode
XIX
Model used Caplio GX100
Duration of use 1 year

Shot of fireworks taken in Long Exposure mode

Shot : Caplio GX100 ●4sec. ●F9.1 ●ISO80 ●EV0.0 ●WB:MANUAL
Special techniques used
This picture was taken of a fireworks display at a beach, and I wasn't able to take anything but a pocket tripod. I wasn't able to take pictures of the fireworks using this tripod, however, because shadows from people around it kept getting in the way. So, I ended up leaning against a stake that had been driven into the sand and taking the pictures by hand.
By displaying the image at its original magnification, you should be able to get rid of any blurring. Alternatively, you should also be able to decrease it to a degree that it won't cause any problems by reducing the size of the image.
Functions used
Long Exposure mode

Mt. Fuji captured using pole aerial photography
Yutaka Saito
Model used G600
Duration of use 1 year

Mt. Fuji captured using pole aerial photography

Shot : G600 ●1/1400sec. ●F4.2 ●ISO200 ●EV-0.5 ●WB:AUTO
Special techniques used
This is a picture of "Hananomiyakou Park" taken near Lake Yamanaka-ko. I turned [Auto Bracketing] ON so that I could get a clear shot of Mt. Fuji. Thanks to this feature, I was able to get a beautiful shot of both the flowers in the park and Mt. Fuji.
Functions used
The photo was taken using pole aerial photography. I attached a long metal pole to the tripod, and then mounted my G600 onto the pole and shot the picture. I set up the camera to take pictures every five seconds using Interval Timer mode.

"Aerial Shot of Makapu'u Point" in Interval Shooting mode
Yutaka Saitoh
Model used R8
Duration of use 1 year

'Aerial Shot of Makapu'u Point' in Interval Shooting mode

Shot : R8 ●1/1000sec. ●F5.0 ●ISO200 ●EV0.0 ●WB:AUTO
Special techniques used
This picture was taken in automatic shooting mode with the interval timer on the R8 set to five seconds and the camera suspended from a large kite. I shot this photo in the direction of Makapu'u Point while flying the kite on Sandy Beach on the island of Oahu in Hawaii.
Functions used
I regularly use an R8 28-mm lens. With aerial photography, wide-angle lenses are effective, but I'm satisifed with the sharp way pictures turn out with the R8.

'Cat' with White Balance compensation

Shot : CX1 ●1/3sec. ●F3.6 ●ISO100 ●EV-0.7 ●WB:AUTO

Niagara-On-The-Lake at dusk in long-exposure mode
Philip Tse
Model used Caplio GX100
Duration of use Under 1 month

Niagara-On-The-Lake at dusk in long-exposure mode

Shot : GR DIGITAL II ●1sec. ●F5.6 ●ISO100 ●EV0.0 ●WB:AUTO
Special techniques used
This shot was taken at dusk in the historic town of Niagara-On-The-Lake, Ontario. My camera was set up on a tripod. I used Manual exposure mode and fixed the shutter speed at one second, with an aperture of f5.6 and the white balance set to automatic. I used 2-second self-timer to trigger the shutter in order to further reduce camera movement. Traffic was sparse. I timed my shutter's release with a passing car so that I could capture a light trail. The image was captured in JPEG with no post-processing.

"Cat" taken in Flash On mode
Gatinhos
Model used CX1
Duration of use 3 months

'Cat' taken in Flash On mode

Shot : CX1 ●1/32sec. ●F3.7 ●ISO100 ●EV0.3 ●WB:MANUAL
Special techniques used
I had backlighting conditions with this photo, so I placed the flash in Flash On mode. In doing so, I was able to decrease the amount of light from the flash a little but was careful not to let the cat's fur get washed out. Some catchlight glinted on the cat's eyes, and the photo ended up turning out really well.
Functions used
Flash On mode

"Bridge" using the contrast compensation function.
Jani Huomo
Model used GX200
Duration of use Under 1 month

'Bridge' using the contrast compensation function.

Shot : GX200 ●1/3sec. ●F2.5 ●ISO154 ●EV0.0 ●WB:AUTO
Special techniques used
Ricoh GX200 is my first professional camera. Small size, superb image quality and advanced DSLR - like modes were reasons for my desicion to choose GX200.
I bought it few days before vacation trip to Israel. I couldn't get it from Finland so I ordered it from Internet store. I red camera manuals in Hotel rooms and spent a lot of time to learn to use camera and take good photos.
I personally and my friends were really impressed with the quality of photos when I arrived back to Finland. It was a joy to got so much positive feedback for vacation photos - even from professional artists and photographers. I feel that Ricoh GX200 made me a serious photographer. :)
Functions used
Chords Bridge in Jerusalem
Point and shoot (RAW) photo with auto settings. 24mm super-wide lens let me capture unique feeling from this bridge. I added a little bit blacks to make black / white contrast even stronger. Image is NOT cropped or manipulated in anyway.

Model used R8
Duration of use 1 year

'Aerial shot' taken using Interval Timer mode

Shot : R8 ●1/1070sec. ●F5.0 ●ISO200 ●EV0.0 ●WB:AUTO
Special techniques used
This photo is an aerial shot of Hawaii's Magic Island. Everything in this photo, from the yacht harbor in the foreground to Diamond Head and the cluster of hotels in Waikiki, was shot in sharp definition. I was pleased with the performance of the R8 lens.
Functions used
Interval Timer mode is essential for taking "aerial shots" from the sky with a camera suspended from a kite. I regularly use several RICOH digital cameras that allow you to set the interval to five seconds.

"Cat" captured in Macro Shooting mode
Yasuo Kajii
Model used GR DIGITAL II
Duration of use 1 year

'Cat' captured in Macro Shooting mode

Shot : GR DIGITAL II ●1/189sec. ●F3.5 ●ISO100 ●EV0.0 ●WB:AUTO
Special techniques used
In Macro Shooting mode, I checked the EV compensation and Histogram display then focused the camera on the cat's eyes and whiskers. I think the GR DIGITAL II is a camera that's adept at taking pictures of subjects that are close.

'Rose' shot using Wide-angle Macro Shooting

Shot : CX1 ●1/410sec. ●F3.6 ●ISO100 ●EV-0.3 ●WB:MANUAL

'Azalea after a heavy rain' shot in Macro mode with a teleconverter lens attached

Shot : Caplio GX100 ●1/100sec. ●F4.4 ●ISO80 ●EV-0.3 ●WB:MANUAL
Special techniques used
I got up real close to an azalea after a heavy rain and took the shot so that you could see what's on the other side of the drop of water. I shot this photograph with a teleconverter lens attached to the camera so that the subject would appear soft and the background would look blurry.
Functions used
In Program mode, with a teleconverter lens attached to the camera, Macro On

'Bud of a succulent plant' shot in Target Shift mode

Shot : R8 ●1/143sec. ●F4.3 ●ISO100 ●EV0.0 ●WB:AUTO

Shifting the target spot for focus accentuated the colors and texture of the bud. I think that this shot brings out the delicate atmosphere of the succulent plant.

'Kitten' captured in multi-shot mode

Shot : CX1 ●1/217sec. ●F4.2 ●ISO400 ●EV1.3 ●WB:AUTO

Because I was taking pictures of a kitten that moved about from start to finish, I snapped away in multi-shot mode.
Functions used
Multi-shot function

"Stars and a Camping Scene" taken with the 21 mm wide angle add on lens
Dave Turner
Model used GX200
Duration of use 3 months

'Stars and a Camping Scene' taken with the 21 mm wide angle add on lens

Shot : GX200 ●60sec. ●F2.5 ●ISO64 ●EV0.0 ●WB:AUTO
Special techniques used
I used a minipod, F2.5 at 60 seconds to overexpose the shot so that both the stars and the camping scene were lit up.
Functions used
The GX200 is an ideal traveling partner. I do a lot of mountain biking in remote places and the GX200 fits neatly on the handle bars. This shot was taken with the 21mm wide angle add on lens.

"The Mont Saint-Michel" taken in interval shooting mode
Hiroshi tateishi
Model used Caplio GX100
Duration of use 1 year

'The Mont Saint-Michel' taken in interval shooting mode

Shot : Caplio GX100
Special techniques used
I did not really use anything you could call a special trick when taking the pictures this time. I think that people who have actually been to the Mont Saint-Michel will understand what I mean, but the footing there is rather poor. Even if you just walk normally along the path, you will find yourself getting caught in the mud. I placed a small, lightweight tripod with a height of about 10 cm on top of dirt that appeared to be relatively hard, and after that, it felt like I had the camera do all of the work automatically in interval shooting mode. I was unable to check the liquid crystal display screen because the positioning of the camera was so low, and the GX100 has no leveling instrument attached to it, so keeping the camera in a horizontal position was very difficult.
Functions used
This is a photograph I took using the interval shooting function when I went to the Mont Saint-Michel in France last month. I had wanted to take a picture of the image of the Mont Saint-Michel reflecting on the ocean, but the surface of the water along the coast is not very stable due to strong winds. For this reason, I decided to switch and use 15-second interval shooting to take pictures of an ever-changing scene.
Even though the time for the bus for departure had been set and I didn't have much time to take pictures with, I tried persevering for 40 minutes.

"'Moss on stone wall' using exposure compensation"
Ryoma Takeda
Model used GX200
Duration of use 6 months

'Moss on stone wall' using exposure compensation

Shot : GX200 ●1/80sec. ●F3.3 ●ISO64 ●EV-1.0 ●WB:AUTO
Special techniques used
I took this photograph of the moss on a stone wall because it looked beautiful, but it is usually quite difficult to bring out the deep green of the moss in these conditions. If taken normally, it becomes too bright and the green comes out looking a bit white. I used just a small minus exposure compensation. (-0.7)
Functions used
Exposure compensation

"'Airborne shot' using interval shooting"
Yutaka Saito
Model used R8
Duration of use 1 year

'Airborne shot' using interval shooting

Shot : R8 ●1/570sec. ●F5.4 ●ISO100 ●EV0.0 ●WB:AUTO
Special techniques used
I set the R8's interval timer to 5 seconds and took automatic photographs from the air. I prevented blur by setting ISO to 200 and using fast shutter release. I was able to photograph the rape blossom fields in Showa Kinen Park from the air beautifully.
Functions used
Ricoh's digital cameras have built-in interval timers. These cameras are ideal for taking "airborne shots" of the ground from the air by attaching the camera to a large kite. I particularly like the R3, R8, GRD, and GX100.

"'Secluded station' using program auto"
Kochan
Model used Caplio R5
Duration of use 1 year

'Secluded station' using program auto

Shot : Caplio R5 ●1/68sec. ●F4.6 ●ISO148 ●EV0.0 ●WB:AUTO
Special techniques used
This is a secluded station in the steep mountains near to the World Heritage Site of Mount Koya. I tried shooting it from a horizontal position to emphasize the mountain faces pressing in on both sides of the station and the towering trees.
Functions used
Program auto/Flash OFF/With image processing (rotation/trimming)

"'Train' using manual focus"
Gatinhos
Model used R8
Duration of use 1 year

'Train' using manual focus

Shot : R8 ●1/125sec. ●F3.6 ●ISO100 ●EV0.0 ●WB:AUTO
Special techniques used
After focusing using auto focus, I converted to manual focus and locked the focus. In that state, I waited for the train to come and then pressed the shutter button.
Functions used
Manual focus

"'Sprinkler' using fast shutter speed"

Model used R8
Duration of use Under 1 month

'Sprinkler' using fast shutter speed

Shot : R8 ●1/620sec. ●F4.4 ●ISO64 ●EV-0.3 ●WB:AUTO
Special techniques used
Just a simple photo with no tripod, just ajust, point and shoot. :)
Functions used
This photo was taken with a Iso 64, f4,1 and a focal length of 12 mm. The exposure speed was 1/620 sec but the speed of the water was so much that you can see the trails.

Filtered light shot using AE lock

Shot : R10 ●1/153sec. ●F3.3 ●ISO80 ●EV0.0 ●WB:MANUAL

Functions used

"Flamenco shot using Sports Mode"
Toshi
Model used RICOH R10
Duration of use Under 1 month

Flamenco shot using Sports Mode

Shot : R10 ●1/8sec. ●F4.5 ●ISO322 ●EV1.0 ●WB:AUTO
Special techniques used
The movements of flamenco dancing are a lot faster than they seem. In my attempts to shoot flamenco dancing in a way that really reflects the mood of the dance, I came up with the following methods...

*I turned the flash off.
*Instead of trying to get the best shot of the subject's movements, I just kept shooting continuously.

Even though it's out of focus, I feel this shot depicts the mood of flamenco the best out of the dozens of shots I took. Are these considered techniques???
Functions used
Scene mode: Sports
ISO sensitivity: AUTO
Slow shutter limit: 1/8 sec
Flash: OFF
Camera shake correction: ON

"Tele-macro shot of a plant"
XIX
Model used Caplio GX100
Duration of use 1 year

Tele-macro shot of a plant

Shot : Caplio GX100 ●1/200sec. ●F4.4 ●ISO80 ●EV0.0 ●WB:MANUAL
Special techniques used
Backlighting is not generally considered to be an easy shooting situation, but it creates beautiful delineation with remarkable clarity for photographing plants and other subjects.
Recently I have gradually become more selective with backgrounds when setting up my shots.
Functions used
I think Ricoh cameras are special because their tele-macro functions allow me to take three-dimensional shots that utilize blur in a positive way.
The advantage of the GX100 is that it allows me to photograph common subjects in ways that are only possible with this camera.

A flower shot using the macro mode

Shot : R10 ●1/36sec. ●F3.6 ●ISO80 ●EV0.0 ●WB:MANUAL
Special techniques used
Macro, iso 80, WB Cloudy, Spot AF, Exp Center, image settings normal, just something I tried, during the afternoon, temp. about 8 degrees Celsius...but hey, Spring Time is coming
Functions used
Choose the R10, because of the 1:1 format, its classic look and above all, a pocketsize miracle, a true camera to capture the photographer's intent

Model used Caplio GX100
Duration of use 1 year

Wild birds

Shot : Caplio GX100 ●1/200sec. ●F4.4 ●ISO80 ●EV0.0 ●WB:MANUAL

After locking the AF, I switched to manual focus using the Fn button and pressed the shutter repeatedly.
Functions used
Used a tele-conversion lens
Focus: Manual

"Shadows"
Hamish Ta-me
Model used GR DIGITAL II
Duration of use 3 months

Shadows

Shot : GR DIGITAL II ●1/640sec. ●F2.8 ●ISO80 ●EV0.0 ●WB:AUTO
Special techniques used
I was working on images for an exhibition that I held in Nov - Dec 08. I was in the city chasing shadows and had this shot composed and ready to go. I was shooting the secretaries etc as they walked through the light. The exposure had to be a critical combination of lo iso, narrow depth of field and a reasonably high shutter speed. I always manually focus as this gives an even faster response time.
Functions used
this was shot on the GRD2. This really is a special camera, a great continuation from the film version which I also used.

"Buddhist monk"
mushypea
Model used Caplio GX8
Duration of use Over 3 years

Buddhist monk

Shot : Caplio GX8 ●1/21sec. ●F3.2 ●ISO100 ●EV0.0 ●WB:AUTO
Special techniques used
I used the SLOW flash mode to freeze the fabric of the Monk's robe and yet holding a sense of movement in the Monk's arms and face.
Functions used
The GX8 is an essential component of my travel kit. It is small enough to carry on a belt and when taking photos it is unobtrusive - unlike many SLR's which can can be intimidating for a subject.

"Temple"
Dave Turner
Model used Caplio GX8
Duration of use Over 3 years

Temple

Shot : Caplio GX8 ●1/570sec. ●F8.1 ●ISO400 ●EV0.0 ●WB:AUTO
Special techniques used
I shot this 'wide open' throwing out the prayer wheel in the foreground to bring a greater depth of field to the shot emphasizing the lady spinning the wheels in the second-third of the frame
Functions used
The GX8 is an unimposing compact with the flexibility of an SLR but the convenience of a compact. The GX8 is an ideal camera to keep at hand for those impromptu shots, where SLR's would miss that 'special moment in time'

Macro shot of a strawberry Santa Claus

Shot : Caplio RR30 ●1/6sec. ●F2.6 ●ISO154 ●EV0.0 ●WB:AUTO
Special techniques used
I took this photo in a room with fluorescent lighting, so I used aluminum foil as a reflector for the shadow parts.
Functions used
This is a cake that my wife and daughter made at Christmas. I got very close and used macro mode to shoot the little strawberry Santa Claus.

"Aurora shot"

Model used GX200
Duration of use 6 months

Aurora shot

Shot : GX200 ●30sec. ●F2.5 ●ISO200 ●EV0.0 ●WB:AUTO
Special techniques used
This photo was taken in -33°C conditions. I hope it can be used for future reference when taking aurora shots.
- The battery lasts longer than I expected. It is possible to take over 30 shots in 2 nights (most at a shutter speed of 120 seconds).
- The user-friendliness and compact size of this camera made it convenient to use in the arctic weather conditions.
- I switched the settings around for the ISO and exposure time. It would probably to helpful to have a setting for 90 seconds as well. I recommend checking the shots by viewing them on a computer or TV screen.
- The upper left-hand corner of the image looks white. (This increases with longer exposure times.) Is this image noise typical of the camera model?

Shot of autumn leaves

Shot : R8 ●1/6sec. ●F4.2 ●ISO100 ●EV-0.3 ●WB:AUTO
Special techniques used
This shot came out a little too bright at first, so I used a tone curve to adjust the color and contrast.
Functions used
I positioned the AF point on the autumn leaves to take this shot.
Thanks to the camera shake correction, this shot came out very well even though I shot it handheld.
