A Japanese-Style Confection Is Born Photographer Michiharu Omoto Camera used Caplio GX
Photographer's comments
I operate a Japanese-style confection shop in Kyoto. For this picture, I held the confection in my left hand, and used my right hand to push the shutter of the camera, which was mounted on a tripod. My wife held the bamboo tweezers. In final step of the finishing process, the gold leaf is placed and a new confection is born.
Reason for selection
A delicate Japanese confection born in tender hands. The image brings together multiple expressions of roundness: the smooth confection surface resembling nothing so much as a baby's skin and the soft palm of the craftsman forming the confection. The technique of foreground blurring of the straight-line tweezers also works wonderfully well and adds a feeling of depth to the image. Perhaps I could call this one a husband-wife collaboration.
