Regulation of Ricoh Group products made of wood

1.Purpose:
These rules shall be established for the purpose of preventing destruction of high conservation value forests in the viewpoint of biodiversity protection and the earth environmental conservation, when manufacturing Ricoh and Ricoh Family brand products as well as those made of wood, which accompany Ricoh Family brand products

2.Scope:
It shall apply to business in Ricoh and Ricoh Family brand paper products (PPC paper, thermal paper, etc.) as well as those made of wood, which accompany Ricoh Family brand products (manuals, packaging material, cushion material, etc.). Not apply to reuse materials (used paper, chip or piece of used wood, etc.)

3.Definition of Terminology:
The terminology used in these rules shall be defined as follows:
1) Old growth forest
* The forest that is matured as ecological system mostly shared by trees aged from 200 to 1,000 years (very similar meaning to "primary forest")
* It is said the richest ecological system is found in the forest.
2) Primary forest (Virgin forest)
* The forest kept natural without any human touch
3) Secondary forest
* The forest grown after natural vegetation intrinsic to the land destructed due to disaster or human act (cutting)
4) Natural forest
* The forest is mainly made by natural force
* It includes primary forest and secondary forest.
5) High conservation value forests
It is the forest which belongs to either of the following:
* Old growth forest
* Primary forest
* The natural forest particularly where creatures of endangered species live
* The forest, which multiple environmental conservation groups request conservation from the viewpoint of biodiversity

4.Requirements concerning raw materials supplied by supplier
Raw materials for Ricoh and Ricoh Family brand paper products (PPC paper, thermal paper, etc.) and those made of wood, which accompany Ricoh and Ricoh Family brand products (operation manual, packaging material, cushion material, etc.) should not be those acquired from "high conservation value forests" defined in the definition of terminology.

5.Requirements to supplier
Ricoh and Ricoh Group shall request suppliers that Ricoh and Ricoh Family brand paper products (PPC paper, thermal paper, etc.) and those made of wood, which accompany Ricoh and Ricoh Family brand products (manuals, packaging material, cushion material, etc.) meet the following requirements;
1) The supplier shall clearly identify place of origin of the raw material that it uses.
2) The supplier shall comply with all the relevant laws and rules of its country and region to conduct forest management.
3) The supplier shall investigate conservation value of the forest from which it intends to acquire raw materials. Based on its result, it shall conduct conservation of the "high conservation value forests" defined in the definition of terminology.
4) The supplier shall develop and document the forest management plan summarizing the above, shall run business in line with it, conduct monitoring and revise the management plan if necessary.
5) In developing and revising the forest management plan, the supplier shall disclose full information to stakeholders such as local inhabitants and environmental protection groups. When it is requested from the stakeholder to have the matter discussed, the supplier shall hold thorough consultation and keep the documented record of such consultation.
6) When Ricoh and Ricoh Group request for disclosure, the supplier shall disclose information related to the above paragraphs 1) - 5), except 5) in relation to the documentation/information that is subject to confidentiality obligation with the stakeholder.

6.In Case requests are not met
1) When Ricoh and Ricoh Group determine that the supplier does not meet the above-mentioned requirements or when there is a strong likelihood that the supplier can not meet the above-mentioned requirements, the supplier shall promptly submit documentation that specifically describes the improvement plan with clear implementation time limit to Ricoh and Ricoh Group; and conduct the improvements in line with the plan.
2) If the supplier does not promptly submit improvement plan to Ricoh and Ricoh Group, or if supplier does not sufficiently conduct the improvements in line with the plan submitted; in other word, if Ricoh and Ricoh Group determine that giving improvement opportunity to the supplier does not lead to conservation of "high conservation value forests", Ricoh and Ricoh Group shall terminate the business with the supplier.
3) So that Ricoh and Ricoh Group obtain data to evaluate supplier's activity, in addition to the information/analysis result collected by Ricoh and Ricoh Group, they shall make reference to the information/analysis result available from the third party organization selected by Ricoh, if necessary.

7.Selection of the third party organization
When Ricoh selects the third party organization, the decision shall be made in consideration of the following:
1) It shall be the organization that possesses knowledge concerning ecological system of the area where the supplier conducts cutting.
2) It shall be the organization independent from the supplier and Ricoh and Ricoh Group.
3) Memorandum of understanding concerning confidentiality obligation shall be concluded between Ricoh (group) and the third party organization.
