Ricoh Signs Leadership Declaration on "Business and Biodiversity Initiative"

Ricoh Company, Ltd. (President and CEO Shiro Kondo) has formalized its decision to participate in the German government-led "Business and Biodiversity Initiative" by adding its signature to the Leadership Declaration. On May 29th, the joint announcement by corporate signatories was released at a ministerial-level meeting held during the 9th Meeting of the Conference of the Parties to the Convention on Biological Diversity (COP9).
Ricoh reaffirms its commitment to improving approaches to biodiversity and carrying out its responsibility as a global corporation by the signature to this declaration.

The Convention on Biological Diversity was signed by 190 countries at the Earth Summit in 1992 for the purposes of conserving diversity of genes / organism species / ecosystems, promoting the sustainable use of natural resources, and assuring the fair and equitable sharing of benefits arising from the utilization of genetic resources. The Convention aims to significantly reduce the loss of biological diversity, which is now facing a crisis on a global scale along with global warming, by 2010. To this end, the active involvement of the private sector is required.

There are 34 corporate signatories in total, with 9 companies in Japan, 16 in Germany, 4 in Brazil, 3 in Switzerland, 1 in the United States, and 1 in Finland.
