The World Environment
Center Gold Medal for International Corporate Environmental
Achievement was established in 1985 to recognize industry leadership
and contributions to worldwide environmental stewardship. The
award was later renamed the Gold Medal for International Corporate
Achievement in Sustainable Development to honor multinationals
for their efforts to meet broader health, safety, and social
goals, as well as for their environmental achievements.

| How are WEC Gold Medal winners selected? |
An independent jury of outside experts
from academia, governments, NGOs, and a representative
of the previous year's Gold Medal winner reviews nominations
and selects the winner based on the following criteria:
1) development of an exemplary, comprehensive, and publicly
announced corporate sustainability policy; 2) consistent,
global, and innovative application of the policy; and
3) international leadership in sustainable development.
