Ricoh wins approval from business leaders in Financial Times environmental survey
Awareness of Ricoh's environmental activities by leaders of the business community is fairly high as can be seen from the company's rating in the December 17 Financial Times survey of "The World's Most Respected Companies". CEOs from major global corporations voted Ricoh in 7th position in the section "for companies that best manage and effect environmental resources".
PricewaterhouseCoopers, one of the world's most respected consulting company surveyed senior executives from companies in the FT500 rankings. The survey, which covered key issues such as corporate governance, business ethics, customer satisfaction and environmental conduct, was carried out on a global basis; so the results reflect a company's standing on an international basis.
Ricoh's position in the surveythe first time that an environmental section has been includedis evidence that the company's environmental activities are widely understood and respected in the business world.
CEOs evaluate a company's environmental performance from three perspectives development or investment in greener products and processes, environmental strategy, and transparency or the public disclosure of environmental activities.
Ricoh has been a leader in the development of greener products for a number of years now and has garnered many environmental awards as a result. The company was also one of the first Japanese companies to make a public statement of its environmental activities in the form of an Environmental Charter in 1995, and it now regularly publishes an Environmental Report.
The placing in the Financial Times survey will certainly enhance the Ricoh's reputation as a company that not only talks about protecting the environment, but as a company that actually does.
