Ricoh Awards "Ricoh Sustainable Development Award" at Science Contest for High-School Students from All Over the World
Intel International Science & Engineering Fair (ISEF), one of the worldú largest scientific study contests for high-school students, was held in Phoenix, Arizona in the U.S. from May 8 to May 14. Ricoh Corporation newly created the "Ricoh Sustainable Development Award (RSDA)" for the contest and awarded it to four students who have achieved excellent results in environmental technology studies.
It was the 51st holding of ISEF, where 10.5 million students participated from all over the world. More than 1,400 high-school students from 40 countries reached the final screening of the contest held in Phoenix, where a research result announcement fair and a commendation ceremony were also held.
RSDA was presented in a Special Award Ceremony on May 13 at Phoenix Civic Plaza, with an audience of more than 5,000 participating.
After an impartial judging, fifteen judges, including scientists, awarded
first prize to Mr. Tyler Glen Lyon and
Mr. Daniel Rees Winegar from Utah, who received a scholarship of 50,000 dollars.
They will also be invited to Japan in July as part of the award, where they
will visit EXPO 2005 AICHI, participate in an educational program at the University
of Tokyo and visit Ricoh research and production sites.
Mr. Travis Lopez in Arizona and Miss. Radha Lamjeawan from New York were awarded second
prize, with each receiving a scholarship of 5,000 dollars.
Ricoh Corporation chairman Mr. Ichioka, participated in the commendation
ceremony and presented the prizes to the above four students. During the ceremony,
he stated, "Ricoh is one of the world leaders not only in the office equipment
and document management sector but also in environmental preservation. Ricoh's
goal is to promote sustainable society and continue to be a respectable citizen,
and it created the RSDA in order to help attain that goal. We will continue
supporting studies by high-school students to help them realize that a variety
of their studies contribute to the development of environment-friendly business.
