From fiscal 2009 onward, residue left after intermediate treatment is included in the calculation of the amount of resources recovered and final disposal amount. If energy is recovered through thermal recycling, amount of residue from refuse incineration is included in the final disposal amount.

  • *1Total amount of wastes generated: the amount at the point of production
    "Wastes" herein refers to general waste, industrial waste, and valuable materials generated as by-products of business activities. When wastes is generated after waste reduction processing during manufacturing, the total amount of wastes generated means the amount of waste at the point of production. When wastes is processed after manufacturing at a facility within a business site, the total amount of wastes generated means the amount of waste prior to such processing. Wastes generated from recycling businesses, waste production equipment, and utility equipment is excluded. As for sludge, the volume after drying is considered the volume.
  • *2Total amount of wastes: the amount of waste discharged outside of business sites. This includes residual waste after the intermediate processing of waste at business sites.
  • *3Final amount of wastes disposed
    Aggregate amount of wastes sent to landfills and incinerated (excluding batteries and other materials at Chinese sites which are processed in accordance with that government's requirements).
  • *4Environmentally sensitive substances
    Substances specified in the environmental action plan, which consist mainly of substances covered in the PRTR Law and include other chemical substances used by the Group in large quantities.
  • *5CO2 emissions in Japan
    The CO2 emission amount for fiscal 2010 is calculated using coefficients specified for each utility released by the Japanese government on December 27, 2010 (calculated including the Kyoto carbon credits transferred tot the government by the utility), based on Order on Calculation and Reporting of Greenhouse Gas Emissions, which was issued in relation to Act on Promotion of Global Warming Countermeasures.
