Chapter 2. Overview of the Save the Memory Project

(9)Return of Photos

When a user discovers his or her own photos, he or she can submit an application from the computer screen for the return of the photos. The user can also personally input information that is required for the return, or can request the assistance of the local staff to input that information. The information that is input includes the person’s name, gender, date of birth, address, telephone number, and email address for retuning the digital image data.
When a return application is submitted, a member of the Photo Center staff will then search for the original photo from the shelves based on the control number and then provide the user with the photo.
After the Photo Center staff member has returned the original photo, the staff member will then use a computer designated specifically for staff use to implement the return completion processing. When the return processing is completed, the location where the digital image data is stored is sent to via email address of the owner of the photo. The return of digital image data, which is done simultaneously with the return of the original photo, is implemented through the “quanp” cloud storage service that was provided by Ricoh at the time. Information that is sent by email to the owner includes an ID and password for the location where the digital image data is stored.

When digital image data is retrieved from quanp, operations are required on a personal computer or feature phone (traditional Japanese style cell phone). Therefore, with the cooperation of Office South Co., Ltd., a free, easy-to-understand operational guidebook was prepared.
Photos that are retrieved as high quality digital image data can be viewed with a personal computer, smartphone, or feature phone, and can also be reprinted.
Provision of the quanp service was later ended, so a data write function was added in the Photo Center. Therefore, the specifications were changed so that those person wishing to obtain digital image data can write the digital image data to a USB memory stick or other external storage medium.
