Ricoh Hong Kong Volunteers Reach Out to Help Youths at Risk
Ricoh Hong Kong / Hong Kong
Since 2008, Ricoh Hong Kong Limited had sponsored a program run by a charity called the Hong Kong Federation of Youth Groups (HKFYG), targeting to mentor young people that are cautioned by the police due to minor mis-behaviour. The name of this social service program is called "Ricoh Positive Energy Program" which means to boost positive energy into the young people's lives.
The program is designed to involve these target young people in developing different community service activities together with our Ricoh volunteers. They valued the chance to experience in various activities including visits to the drug rehabilitation village, Chinese New Year party with the minority group, outing with mild grade mentally handicapped children and visits to the underprivileged family.
Through the planning and implementation of the activities, the youths learn how to organise and cooperate with others, that gradually help to build their confidence and leadership skills.
The social service program ran from October 2009 to May 2010 with total of 52 participants including 36 Ricoh volunteers over 500 service hours. The result is very encouraging. Some of these target young people had changed from a shy, timid person to become more outgoing and confident.
The Ricoh Hong Kong volunteers had committed and dedicated their valuable time to make this program a success. Ricoh's employees had achieved their target to inject "positive energy" to these young people and can also learn how to be leaders and grow from the experience.
