Information Security-Related Actions in Place in Fiscal 2007

Achieving Further Progress in Information Security

Based on its Approach to Information Security, Ricoh continues to roll out initiatives to boost the level of information security in fiscal 2007. Key actions undertaken this fiscal year are outlined below.

  • Three years have passed since ISMS Group Certification was obtained. The certified Ricoh companies in and outside Japan will be subject to ISMS reassessment for renewal. Group companies outside Japan are aiming to obtain certification for the first time.
  • Work is performed to properly reflect the revisions of the Guidelines for the Personal Information Protection Law.
  • Common standards for information security are formulated for full familiarization throughout the Group.
    (please refer to ISMS)
  • Responses to and preparation for internal control and IT control as required by the Financial Instruments and Exchange Law, which will apply to the accounting years beginning April 2008, are administered.
  • Further refinements in business continuity planning and management are being sought (please refer to BCPs and Related Undertakings).

Editor's Note

The fiscal 2006 edition of the Information Security Report comprehensively introduced a variety of undertakings and explained Ricoh's approach to information security. The goal of the undertakings is to create a secure enterprise, which in turn contributes more to the creation of a secure society. The Report reiterated that information security is not something to be addressed by a select group of departments or task domains alone. Rather, it should be viewed as an all-out effort requiring the participation of all employees.
The fiscal 2007 edition of the Report describes many actual cases that may inspire and guide employees as they strive to achieve Ricoh's goal of "spontaneously carrying out information security measures as part of daily routines."
Information security not only concerns risk management but is also an important part of information use. Information security can improve productivity, promote efficiency and reduce costs, thus increasing corporate value. Looking ahead, we plan to present to readers more and varied actions in which information security is viewed in a positive and broader light.
On the occasion of the publication of this Report, thanks are offered to the people both within and outside the organization who collaborated with Ricoh by conducting various studies and submitting reports.
