The R5C551 (1 slot)/ 554 (2 slots) is a single chip solution offering two PCI functions (PCI bus bridge to a PC Card and an IEEE1394).

PC Card Interface
The R5C551/554 can control the 16-bit PC Card and the 32-bit CardBus Card without an external buffer and is compliant with the CardBus Standard. With high-speed data transfer (transfer rate: 32 bits, bus clock: 33 MHz) and a bus master function, the R5C551/554 is an ideal device for high-speed processing cards such as high-speed LAN cards, video cards and image processing cards.
IEEE1394 Interface
The R5C551/554 has a 2-port 1394 Cable interface, whose transfer rates are 100/200/400 Mbps, and independent high-capacity FIFO buffers and DMA engines. Also, the R5C551/554 supports two types of data transfer: Asynchronous and Isochronous.
Low Power Consumption
Due to the originally developed hardware design, power consumption during Suspend mode has been drastically reduced.
